Mission

Discover ways to support local initiatives and international partnerships.

Local Initiatives

We’re passionate about making a positive change in the East Auckland Community in any way possible. Through our community initiatives, we can operate in areas of need.

Chaplaincy Work: Chaplains are ordinary people who volunteer to work in schools, prisons, workplaces, sports teams, the armed services and hospitals. Each person is trained in crisis intervention as well as day to day caring appropriate to where they are placed. Eastgate supports a small number of chaplains in partnership with in our East Auckland community.

Women's Refuge: We are privileged to be able to support the team at Women’s Refuge in a very practical way. Each year we donate food for Christmas hampers and supply toiletries and birthday gifts for the families.

CAP Debt: This free debt help service goes beyond budget help. We have coaches to help people develop a unique plan for each client. This includes creating a budget that prioritises food and housing, taking over all creditor relationships, negotiating with creditors, and establishing a long term repayment plan—so that families can get out of debt and stay out of debt.  Call free on 0508 227 111 to find out how Christians Against Poverty can help.

Christian Religious Education: We love kids! Our Eastgate team is part of 2,500 volunteers in schools around NZ teaching values from the Bible and empowering kiwi kids to make positive life choices. Fully trained and using an approved curriculum, for just half hour one morning a week you will find our team linking with schools and visiting classrooms all around East Auckland.

International Partnerships

Eastgate has a heart for the Church beyond our local community. Through the church’s Faith Promise giving, we’re able to partner with people and churches abroad who are doing incredible things to build the kingdom of God.

For us, Global Mission is all about responding to the biblical call to serve and share the Gospel with people all around the globe.

Partnerships offer opportunities to get involved with what God is doing around the world. Our partnership in Indonesia and parts of the Borneo island focuses on training leaders and planting churches. In Vanuatu, we partner with Scripture Union (or Skripja Yunyon as the locals say it) in the very practical way of building and maintaining a great camp ground for the many children’s discipleship camps that take place throughout the year. Our partnership with Mongolia is focused on strengthening church leadership teams and in India we partner with a local church with a focus on reaching the unreached.

This year, we have a brand new partnership with Tearfund NZ in the area of Kupang/West Timor in Indonesia. We’re looking forward to building and strengthening this partnership as we support Tearfund in their child sponsorship projects to focus on child education and wellbeing. You can email [email protected]or check out their website www.tearfund.org.nz if you’re interested in sponsoring a child.

Remember to say you are from Eastgate so Tearfund will connect you with the community we're partnering with in Kupang.

We are also proud to partner with workers involved in Missions Interlink New Zealand, World Outreach and Wycliffe Bible Translators.

Opportunities to Go on Mission

We love to see people released to go overseas on mission work. Each year we offer a number of short term team opportunities. These are affordable and offer a variety of experiences and cultures for people of all ages. We encourage everyone to go on a short term trip at least once in their lifetime. Here's what's coming up in the next 12 months:

  • Borneo — visit Kim Goodwin and the local church-planting teams in January/February 2020; approximately $2500/pp
  • India — visit Ben, Eliza and their local church and medical mission in March/April; approximately $3000/pp
  • Kupang — visit churches doing child sponsorship projects, meet your sponsor child and family in April/June; approximately $2500/pp
